Apple Watch: With great intimacy comes great responsibility
22 Jan 2015 • imore.comIf I have Lock screen notifications left on, everyone glancing at my phone can see the incoming messages or mail. There are situations, both personal and professional, where I just don’t want that to happen. As such,I typically turn previews off. (Even then, they can still see who’s messaging me, but without that information I can’t decide which notifications can and can’t be ignored — convenience comes at the cost of privacy.)
Ok. So I’m not alone in valuing the privacy of my texts and emails. But how in the world can you ever let a friend borrow your phone to make a call, read something quickly, or even swipe thru some photos you’d like to share with them? It’s one thing to worry about what’s visible when your phone is locked but what about when it’s purposely unlocked?
I sometimes feel like my phone needs a secure “guest” or “hand to a friend” mode. I guess technically you can make calls from the emergency screen, but that’s only if you actually have the number memorized. And it does nothing to help with any of the other use cases I mentioned.
