Apple MacBook Review: The Laptop of the Future Isn’t Ready for the Present

It’s nearly impossible not to be seduced by this MacBook’s beauty, its dazzling screen and perfect trackpad. But don’t give in. Like the original MacBook Air, introduced in 2008, there are too many key compromises—in battery life, speed and port access—for the early-adopter price.

This makes me sad. I still plan to go to a store and check one out in person, but my gut tells me (as a power user) the comparison to the original Air is apt. I bought an original Air and it was amazing - and very compromised. The Air of 2-3 years later became amazing while the compromises ceased to matter.

I’m thinking the 2017 MacBook will really be the computer to own. Until then perhaps it’s time for a newer 13” MBPr for me (I’m 3 years behind). It does sound like the new MacBook could be a truly revolutionary second laptop for travel and couch use - and perhaps an all around great single laptop for non power users who don’t need the processor power and missing ports.
