2 minute review of new Apple products
24 Apr 201512” Macbook
Hate the keyboard, don’t love the trackpad. Think I could get used to the trackpad, but not the keyboard. It would be brutal if you ever used it on a desk with an external display and exteral keyboard (one with more key travel) - you’d constantly be reminded of how terrible the travel is.
Cursor keys will mess you up if your a developer, but I assume you’d get used to them.
Macbook Pro Retina
Again, don’t love the trackpad. Forch Touch is neat though. I feel like if it vibrated 30-50% more when you “press” it that it would be “good”. If I wasn’t paying attention I could barely notice some of my “clicks”. The haptic feedback was just too subtle and I would miss it entirely. This is maybe something you’d get used to with time though - or maybe Apple could make it a bit punchier in a software update.
Apple Watch
A little weird and confusing, but I think playing with the models strapped to the counter is probably the worst way to experience the watch. Looking forward to my UPS delivery tomorrow so I can try one on my wrist, where it belongs.
This may be the first time I’ve been disappointed with new Apple products. I don’t think I would ever buy a new Macbook (because of the keyboard), and the new Macbook Pro Retina feels like a step backwards. Lets see if the watch can turn it all around.
