Windows 10 Editions Compared
07 Jul 2015 • anandtech.comAs expected, Home has the fewest features available. Much like previous versions, there is no support to join an Active Directory domain, but that was not expected either. One thing that many users were hoping to see on Windows 10 Home is BitLocker support. BitLocker is Microsoft’s drive encryption suite, and Windows 10 Home does not have this unfortunately. There can still be encryption, but only as part of InstantGo, which was formerly known as Connected Standby. InstantGo is Connected Standby plus device encryption, and that is available to Home.
I was about to chastise Windows for how lame it was not offering BitLocker for home users. Full drive encryption has been a built in feature of OS X for what - a few years now? Then I plunged into the whole BitLocker vs InstantGo device encryption issue to make sure I’m not speaking out of turn and looking like a fool. 15 minutes later I’m still confused.
I think I understand the differences, but I’m not completely sure. Good luck trying to explain it to grandma or your average Joe. How are normal users supposed to have any clue about this stuff? scratches head
