DXO Ratings Are Horseshit
22 Sep 2017 • daringfireball.netParticularly with their “overall” score, DXO is pretending to assign an objective scientific-looking measurement to something that is inherently subjective. It’s horseshit, but everyone in the media falls for it. I said it was horseshit last year when they named a Pixel their “highest rated ever”, and I say it’s bullshit now when they said that about an iPhone.
These types of “randomish” numeric ratings have always bothered me. It’s also silly that the scale is fixed and not representative of anything measurable in the real world. What happens: a “really good camera” this year scores a 95. A “really good camera” 3 years later also scores a 95 - yet these scores are not equal because what a 100 means in always in flux (slowly getting better we hope).
