iPad stuck in recovery mode for NO reason?

Today my iPad went into recovery mode for no reason.  This was concerning as I almost never plug it into my computer to back it up.  Luckily, just before Christmas I had upgraded to 4.2, however the prospect of losing everything since Christmas really wasn't appealing.  No amount of rebooting helped.

I was about to give up and restore but one last Google found me Recboot. And here is a direct link to download the Mac version.  And finally I think this is the official site.  If only this could be on the Mac App Store. :-)

I clicked "Exit Recovery Mode" and instantly "Awake my precious." appeared and my iPad reboots.  I'm backing it up right now. The Lord of the Rings reference makes it all seem a bit magical.
