Honeywell's Lyric thermostat is a worthy Nest competitor

Retailing for $279 starting in August, the Lyric stands out for its geofencing feature, which uses smartphone location info to know whether you’re home – and to tweak the settings accordingly. When you’re away, energy-saving mode is activated, and when you get within seven miles of your house, your preferred temperature will kick in.

I dunno about the whole “7 miles” thing (seems like it should be more), but I really wish my Nest could do this. It’s movement detection sensor is just about worthless if your thermostat is placed in a not well trafficked area such as an entrance hallway or similar.

Though perhaps all I really need is a Nest Protect in my living room to extend the sensor network. Smartphone location seems to be a simpler solution though.
