Apple Sued Over Automatic iOS 7 Downloads to iOS 6 Devices
26 Aug 2014 • macrumors.comYes, I know this is really old news, but I’m clearly out some of my never published drafts that still have things I think need to be said.
After iOS 7 was released, some iOS 6 users discovered that as much as 3GB of storage was being used up by an automated over-the-air download of iOS 7. For many users, this was handy because they didn’t need to wait for a large download to complete before updating – but for those who wish to remain with iOS 6, they have found multiple gigabytes of storage used up by a software update that they will never use, with no way to free up that space.
Fighting the endless march of technology is typically a wasted effort, but often I get why people try. The anti-social element, to pick one example. I wish people spent more time with people, more real-lifeing, less Facebook-ing, more face-to-face, less FaceTime, more talking, less texting. Tech can improve our lives in profound ways, but often we’re blind to how it’s making things worse.
I’m reminded of C.K. Louis here: “Everything is amazing right now and nobody is happy.”
** …BUT… **
…if you’re going to own a new or nearly-new iPhone and then whine about some space that’s taken up because you are refusing to upgrade to the latest supported OS? Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and ponder how amazing everything truly is.
.. and if you truly never want to upgrade, get an Android phone.
